Canada
Geese (Branta canadensis) populations have been
increasing for the last fifty years and have become
a major nuisance in some areas. The large amount
of feces produced by geese congregating on turf areas
typically near water bodies is a source of environmental
contamination. Feces from large flocks are major
contributors to fecal coliform levels in reservoirs. Flight
Control Plus is an effective Goose
repellent.
Geese are inefficient eaters. They can eat up to 3 lbs. of
turf every day, and will “re-deposit” half of that
back every day.
Q. What is Flight Control Plus?
A. The active ingredient in Flight
Control PLUS is a manmade form of a naturally occurring
compound found in many plants. When applied to turf,
Flight Control Plus conditions geese to avoid feeding
in treated areas. Flight Control Plus is odorless,
waterproof (rainfast) and will usually last through
several mowings. How Flight Control PLUS Works Turf
treated with Flight Control PLUS looks different to geese in the ultraviolet
light spectrum. Geese, who feed on treated turf experience a temporary
case of indigestion and after a few days, become conditioned to avoid
feeding in areas where they recognize the ultraviolet
absorption of Flight Control PLUS.

Q. When is the best time to treat?
A. All season long. Optimally, applying
Flight Control PLUS right after snow melt (spring
infestations) or after the final mowing (fall infestations)
will allow for maximum repellency.
Q. How do I actually apply the product(s)?
A. Flight Control Plus liquid
concentrate is mixed with water and sprayed directly
onto the turf with a hand held pump up (Hudson type)
sprayer or Solo
Back pack sprayers. See product page
for dose rates.
Note: Backpack sprayers cost more but they hold more product, get
the job done faster and are much easier to use than carrying a hand
held sprayer that are awkwardly carried and require frequent stooping,
filling and pumping. Once you use a back pack sprayer there
is no going back – You
can use it for all your yard weed control and fertilizer
applications or use it to apply pond weed and algae
control products.
Note: Always triple rinse sprayers between each use!
Q. How often
do I need to treat?
A. Reapply after two or three
mowings if geese continue to pressure the property.
You may need to adjust periodic treatment timing depending upon turf
growth rates.
Q. How long before I see results?
A. Geese
cease feeding after a few days and will begin to
seek alternative sites.
